Straw for mouse bedding

Can you use pea straw for mouse bedding (or any other type of hay/straw)?

Dear Sam,

I don't recommend straw for bedding for two reasons. First, it is a likely allergen or irritant. Secondly, it is not good at absorbing odor.

Also, if you choose wood chips, aspen is the only safe kind.
