feeding mouse after cat attack?

Question
Hello I was wondering how long do you wait to feed a mouse, after you cat has gotten it?

Thanks,
Cameo

Answer
Dear Cameo,

I don't understand your situation. If you have a pet mouse and the cat has attacked it, feeding is not your primary concern-- infection is. The mouse should be on antibiotics immediately. The same is true for any mouse the cat or dog has possibly bitten. Car saliva can be as deadly as snake venom to a little mouse.

The very, very, very best thing is to get the mouse to an emergency vet. If that is simply not possible, follow the advice I gave this person whose mouse was mauled by a cat:

If you have a tiny baby mouse that the cat brought in, you need to nurse it immediately.

There is no reason to ever withhold food from a mouse.

Let me know if I can help further. If I understand your situation, I might be able to help.
