Iguana Limping

Question
Hi, my iguana is limping and isn't using her front right foot. She is about 7 months old and i had her out front to get some sun rays, and she jumped out of my hands(which was about a 6 inch jump), and ran into a bush in my front yard. So my dad tried to get her out and she was trying to burrow down under the bush, she was holding onto the bush and wouldn't let go. We finally got her free and brought her inside, when i noticed she was breathing really hard so I tried to calm her down by holding her next to me. Next I put her down to walk and I noticed she was limping in her front right leg. She isn't really using her front right leg and she seems to not be able to walk very easily. I know she is in pain and hurt herself I just don't know what she hurt. I don't know if she broke anything or what. Please help me figure out whats wrong with her leg? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Dustin,
Without an Xray it is almost impossible to tell what the injury is for sure. It can possibly be in the "ankle", foot, elbow or even shoulder.  You will have to watch carefully to see what way she is favoring it. Many times they simply pull or strain a muscle which heals in a few days.  They can also pull a joint out of socket which is possible since she had to be pulled out of where she was.  I suggest getting her into a vet this week to see what and where the injury is. The sooner the better.  You may find that she is very stressed from the injury or even from her escape and capture.  She may not want to eat and may hide.  Do be sure that she has the proper temperatures, uvb, etc.  If you need more info on proper temps, etc please let me know or you can check some of my previous IGUANA answers for my care sheet.
I wish you luck with your iguana and really do home it is a simple strain/sprain and not something more serious.  If by chance there is a break, it can be set and cast my the vet.
