Question
Hello. i had 1 hermie named koopa. Then I read that they like company so i decided to get two more mates for my buddy. I got one quarter size one (he was very lively) and one the size of Koopa ( who is a wee bit smaller the a golf ball.) The thing is the first time i put the two big ones together the new one (sorry i didn't name him yet.)  he started to climb on top of koopa and push him and shove him. i got really worried because Koopa and the small one get along so well. So what I did was take a wire cage and put it around no name so he's kind of isolated. He liked to climb on the wire cage and he was very active. That night i wasn't home and my mom said that no name had some skin or something on him. When i came home i saw it, but from what i've read it dosen't seem as if he's molting. Now he has become inactive and he is starting to get me worried. Was isolating him by a wire cage in my 10 gal. wrong? is it stressing him? I only want the best for my 2 new comers plus koopa what should i do to make them all happy? What's that skin like stuff on no name? If you can answer these questions it would most apperciated. Thank you so much!

P.S can you give me some name ideas for no name. I don't want to keep calling him no name. Thanks again. hope to hear from you soon.

Answer
Hello Sara,
Congrats on your new crabs! Well first of all sometimes a crab can be agressive at first..make sure that you are offering them some sort of protein such as fish, krill, peanut butter or shrimp . That may help! Please offer them both salt(use aquarium salt only) and fresh water too! I would not use a wire cage of any sort to isolate your crab! (only because metal can be harmful to crabs) If you need to isolate try a plastic kritter keeper! As far as the skin stuff..it is hard for me to answer that with out seeing your crab but he may be trying to molt and if he does leave the skin in there he will eat and it is good for him! You may also want to try bathing the crabs only this one time in the salt water..just set them in there for a second enough to get them all wet ,then take them out..that way they all "smell"the same and should not fight anymore! Try going to www.hermitcrabaddiction.net
that website has tons of great information that will help you too! Good luck...and I like the name Mario or Lugi for the no name ( I like nintendo) lol
