Question
Do hermit crabs travel well. I am in a place that is about 6 hours from my, home in New Jersey. I was wondering if i could get one here and bring it home. Will it still be alive an d healthy? or should i get one on the jersey coast 30 mins from my house?? PLease pleae reply!!

Answer
Dear Sally,
thank you for your question.
Travelling is stressful for crabs. If you know any pet shops that sell crabs where you live, I would get them there. They are already very stressed when they arrive at the shops (after being caught, shipped and usually kept in abysmal conditions) and a six hour drive will only add to this.
If you have to transport them, put them in a container with some moist tissue and make sure that the container cannot fall over.

When you say "on the Jersey coast", I hope that you don't plan on catching a wild crab? These are marine crabs that have very different needs from land hermit crabs.
For more excellent info on land hermit crabs, I recommend these websites:

I hope I was of some help to you
