moulting

Question
I have had my crabs since around thanksgiving. I have had one who molted and he has not emerged yet and it has been over a month. He is alive as of a few days ago. I moved them from a 10 gallon to a 46 gallon tank. I went to do my daily check and was so upset that one had died. I went to take him out and he molted on the top of the surface where the rocks are. I have sand then rocks then coconut stuff. I looked inside and he was in there all pink so I know he molted. What should I do? I know he needs to eat his skeleton but I have 2 other crabs running around and the other one is still in the sand molting. Should I leave him be on the rocks or should I isolate him in the sandy part of the tank? Thank you  Windy

Answer
You need to protect him from the others until he is finished. You can make little "walls" with CD cases or a 2 liter bottle but make sure he has access to water, even in very small containers.

I'm concerned about the rock part of your substrate. Crabs do not do well on gravel as it can get inside their shell and damage their abdomens.
