Question
QUESTION: Hello!
I have questions regarding the water, can I boil water, and let it cool down and then just give it to my crabs, I have PP crabs. And with molting, since i don't have enough sand from the beach(I baked and washed already), I made a big hill for them to molt in, is this okay? Playsand is very dirty in my local home imporvement store, so I didn't buy it, they were leaking with sand and had holes. Anyways, a list of questions. (sorry, I just want the best for them)
1. Is it okay to have temperature at 65-70 degrees?
2. I'm using a heating light, I turn it off after a while and tunr it back on, is this okay?
3. is wheat and white bread edible for them, and the crust?
4. What aRE crabs favourite foods?
5. What type of bottled water brands could I use instead of using de-chlorinating tap water or boiling it?
thanks!

ANSWER: Boiling the water is not enough. It does not unlock the chloramine.

1. That is a smidge low, try for 74-82
2. Turning the light on and off isn't a huge deal but try to keep some sort 12/12 hour light source happening, even if it's sunny daylight.
3. Bread is processed with sugar and other additives, I would avoid it.  www.hermitcrabcuisine.com has lots of safe foods.
4. Popcorn, maple leaves, roses, shrimp with the skin on, coconut, starfruit
5. As long as it says "spring water" it's safe to use right out of the container.

QUESTION: Oh crud! I used boiled water that's cold and sprayed them and sprayed them directly, misted the tank and mixed the sand with it! They're going to die, oh my gosh, i'm worried!! Anything I can do to keep them living? They still seem pretty active and fine, eating and everything but i'm scared they're going to have a painful death, I rather have them die instantly than to suffer! Help! sorry!
-tori, thanks for the previous answer too.

Answer
Stopping use right now is the best you can do. We have seen crabs survive tap water for lengths of time and at least it was chlorine free. Don't beat yourself up! You obviously care a great deal about them and are trying to do the best that you can. We have ALL made mistakes, believe me!
