Question
hello!good day.  i am from the Philippines.  My grand daughter has a pet hedgehog that was given to her by a classmate who went back to Taiwan.  I was so surprised to see litters in the cage this am.  HELP!! do not know what to do.thank you for your prompt response.

Answer
Hi, Agnes:

Wow, I bet you were really surprised!

My hope is that the mom hedgehog will take care of her babies.  Then you don't really have much to do except give mom some peace and quiet and feed her well.  Also, if she doesn't have a roomy bedding box or whatever she sleeps in, I would give her a larger one.  She'll take care of the babies.  Are they nursing?

If she neglects or tries to destroy the babies, you will have to try to rescue and hand-feed them, but that is very difficult to do.  And I can't help with that, because I've never had that experience.  I would go to Yahoo! and join hedgehog_help or another similar group.  Some of their members will surely be able to advise you.

Good Luck, "Great-Grandma"!

Hedgie Blessings,

Laurel
