hi i found a family of hedgehogs in my garden there are 4 babys and the mother. sadly were they were in my compost heep they couldnt stay as i use it a lot and was frightened of hurting them. i have moved them all in to a box with fress water and beding. can you tell me what i should give them as food and how best to look after them an when they will be old enough to let back out in to the garden.

Hi, some hedgehogs can eat kitten food but there is specially formed hedgehog food in pet stores right now. If there tiny babies you will need to go out and get some KMR (kitten milk replacer) and hand feed them., you can feed them plane chicken but I would recommend feeding then kitten food (not fish based) or real hedgehog food. I don't normally deal with wild hedgehogs so I don't know if they would survive out in the wild if you raise them. They should be at least 6 weeks old before you can release them.
