Missing fur around eye

Question
I have two 3 month old guinea pigs.  One started loosing hair above one of her eyes about 1 week ago. The area is getting larger and she is sometimes scratching it.  The other guinea is fine.  My son had ringworm recently and I am wondering if this could be the same thing.  I have an appt. with the Vet however I would welcome any info you have.  There does not appear to be a problem with fleas or mites.  Any thoughts?  Thank you for answering.  Sharon

Answer
Hello Sharon and thanks for the question,

If no mite/lice infestation is visable, check again IN the ears for ear mites. With the fur pattern you are talking about, earmites are very suspicious. If that is a "no" then we can assume that the ringworm "may" have been caught. GPs have VERY sensitive skin and are very prone to getting skin irritations.

The vet is always the way to go especially if a skin irritation OTHER than mites/lice is suspected.

The vet will most likely give an antibiotic shot (which Mr. GP will not like) and he should start showing improvement in a couple days. A bath with human baby shampoo and a towel dry will also soothe him.

The fur will grow back. LOL.

Thanks and good luck,
Ryan
