Question
It's not realy a question. I have a three year old guinea pig i got her from a pet store i'v had her for three months(girl) Last sunday i seen that she had scratched her eye, i didn't think much of, i just made sure i cleaned her eye, not until a week later her eye got realy red with a white dot in the middle, i took her to my vet, the vet told me she had a corneal ulcer. The vet gave me drops for her left eye, but her eye just got wors. i took her back to the vet the vary next day, she gave me some other drops. she is now blind in her left eye, Honey is such a sweetie. i feel soo bad for her but she's doing well, still eat's like a piggy. I have four more guinea pigs and a giant rabbit.

Answer
Hello Chantelle,

Go to your local feed store and get a medicine called Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment and to a drug store and get Sterile Saline Solution. Flush her eye with the saline solution and then apply a strip of the ointment across her eye. If she blinks, just gently pull her eye open again and the meds should go in. Do this 2 - 3 times a day (it may look a bit worse before better). Since it's already been a week, I'm not sure it will work, but it's worth a try. If there has been no improvement in 3 weeks, discontinue. If there is improvement, continue until the eye is completely healed or until there is no longer any improvement. Good luck. I hope this treatment will help. It's a wonderful medication and is excellent for healing injuries and infections in piggy eyes, but it tends to work best if used right after the injury occurs. It may still help though and if it can save her sight it's worth it.
