Question
I just got a Winter White Dwarf Hamster the other day, and I have heard about a stress realted illness called wet-tail.  Is there a way to prevent it and should I put something like dri-tail in his water?  Also, the pet store told me to feed him a pellet diet, but he didn't seem to like it, so I got him something that says it has fortified gourmet ingredients in it and he likes it better.  But I have noticed he likes the sunflower and pumpkin seeds best.  Should I be worried about any nutritional deficiency from eating them the most?  Thanks so much for your time!

Answer
Kat,
I really wouldn't worry about wet tail as long as he didn't have it when he came to you. As for the diet, i personally don't like the pellets. They are fille with vitamins but don't really appeal to most small animals who in the wild would be eating seeds and such. As long as he isn't ONLY eating the seeds, he should be fine. I had one gerbil who loved pumpkin seeds but would only eat them when i peeled the shells off for her lol. So its perfectly normal he loves them. Just make sure he's eating the pellets in the food mix as well. Good luck!
