Answer
Hi Jessica,

Do you have Syrian hamsters or Dwarf hamsters?  If you have Syrian hamsters (the larger, more common type of hamster), then the male should be separated from the female.  Syrian hamsters can't live together.

If you have Dwarf hamsters, however, you should leave the male in with the female, since he will help to take care of the babies (if she is pregnant).

Signs of pregnancy are building a large nest and hoarding food in it.  Also, the female's belly will expand when she is at least 10 days pregnant, and her nipples will be more noticeable.

If you determine that she is pregnant, please don't forget to not touch the babies until they are 14 days old.  Also, a couple of days before they're due, clean the cage and remove the wheel.  Once you've cleaned the cage, fill it with plenty of Aspen or Carefresh bedding.  (Avoid Pine and Cedar, which are dangerous.  Also avoid Bed Fluff.)  Make sure your hamster builds her nest on the ground floor of the cage.

Have a great day!

If you have any othe questions, please feel free to ask.
