Ear Bleed

We have come back off a weeks holiday to find our gerbil looks disorientated.  He is off balance and when we looked closer his ear looks sore and dried blood surrounding the area, and he wont put one of his front legs down. He has also started to smell but we clean his cage every week.  He was checked on every other day and we were told he looked a little off balance but they didn't notice the blood.

Hello Emma,

I can't say for definite what it is, as he would need to be examined properly, but it sounds a bit like a middle ear infection which will cause him to lose his balance and can have those symptons around the ear also. If this is what he has, he will need antibiotics from a vet, so if you can i would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible!!!
