Question -
we aquired HAPPY in january of this year, then SPOTTY in march then DELILA. all 3 are in seperate cages but receive the same care and food etc. SPOTTY was the largest, just a fat fur ball and i (the mommy) have relied on my kids to take care of them the past 2 weeks. today when i went to clean SPOTTY is so skinny i can see her feet, and she has hair loss on her back as well. she is active and affectionate as always. none of the others seem different. HELP...i want the best for my animals and feel so awful that she seems ill...
Thank you for your time!!

hello, it sounds like she's having an allergic reaction to something. what type of bedding are you using? Dwarf hamsters are really allergic to certain types of bedding just as pine and ceder. I use carefresh on my animals bedding and that is really good. I would truly consider taking your hamster to a vet. is the skin where his bald spot is at crusty looking and very red? or is it pink and normal looking as well?

Answer
make sure she isn't scratching herself raw. If she starts doing that than the hospital is the way she needs to go. Even though you've been using the same bedding and stuff for months some animals may take a while for them to start having allergic reactions to them and so generally if you want to rule out allergies I do think soft-sorbent, kay kob or carefresh are the best ones to use. If you are already using one of those and not the wood shavings ones than monitor spotty closer and if you do think it's because spotty isn't getting enough attention than give spotty double the amount. :-)
