I'm staying up half the night making sure she does'nt bleed more than before then after I start to sleep i'll check her ever 2 hours or so. is this to little or to much? please this is so upsetting! i'm realy worried and she's like my little sister!!! also once again can they have periods??

Answer
Hi Sam,

This bleeding is not from her being in heat(period). This is more than likely a urinary infection and she should be taken to the vet as soon as it is possible. If she is not bleeding heavy she should be all right until Monday. The only thing you can do right now (until she sees the vet) is to make sure she is still drinking plenty of water. If she is not drinking, try giving her water with an eye dropper (or have your Mom help).
I do care about these animals very much. I have had a total of 34 hamsters over the last 5 years (counting babies and the 4 I have now).
I can tell that you have taken great care of your hamster since she is going on 4 years old. Great job!
