Samarras fur loss!

Question
My hamster Samarra she is losing fur and it is hard and sticky. Also she squeeks when I put her in her cage. I checked and she doesnt have mites. I dont know if its her treats or if she is molting or sick? All I know is she is almost a year and a half. It is probably not the bedding because I used it since day 1 and this never happended. Maby this has somthing to do with her fur loss, she is a russian dwarf hamster so plz I will try anything. Just help my hamster.

Hi Kelsey,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner - it has been a very hectic day.

Your hamster may be losing fur because of her age.  Older hamsters tend to lose fur, especially around the hip and belly area.  Or, it is possible that she is molting.  Hamsters tend to shed quite a bit of fur during the summer months; this is nothing to be concerned about, because the fur will grow back.

However, if Samarra is exhibiting any other signs of illness, such as lethargy or not eating or drinking, then you should take her to the vet for a diagnosis and treatment.
