Question
Hi
When I try to handle my hamster, he gets agitated. anything to solve that? Also, when I put the food on my hand, he does not go on my hand completely. And also when he takes all the food from my hand, I am scared that
he will smell the extract of the food on my hand and bite me.

Answer
Hi Othman,

It sounds like your hamster does not fully trust you yet and the taming process should be started.
I would suggest for the next few days to just stand or sit by your hamsters cage and talk to him in a soft voice. This is so he can get used to your voice and your scent. On the 4th day, put your hand (wash your hands first) into the cage, Do not try and pick him up at this point, let him sniff and walk on your hand (if he will). Do this off and on while he is awake for the next couple of days. On the 7th day when you put your hand in and he comes to you, try picking him up. Always make sure your hamster sees your hand when going to pick them up, that way you do not startle or scare them.
When hand feeding your hamster, just stick with the bigger pieces that you can just hold in your finger tips, that way you have a less chance of getting bit. This is one of the reasons why it is important to wash your hands before handling your hamster.
