Question
QUESTION: I have a hamster that is constantly scratching its self. I don't know if that is normal can you please tell me if it is no or is normal.
Thank You

ANSWER: Hi Leslie,

No, it is not normal for a hamster to scratch constantly.
What type of hamster bedding are you using? Is the hamster losing any fur?

QUESTION: I am using pine bedding. The hamster is not losing any fur. It just scratches and scratches. Another question is which is better bedding aspen or carefresh? Sorry for bothering you. :)

Answer
Hi Leslie,

Either Aspen or carefresh bedding is fine, I have used both. The important thing is to get rid of the pine. This type of bedding, along with cedar bedding, is toxic to hamsters and may cause many types of health problems.
After changing the bedding, you should see an improvement (with the scratching) in your hamster within a couple days.
