are my hamsters cold?

Question
Hey,

It recently got really hot where I live so I installed an air conditioner into my room. Last night I kept my syrian hamster and my dwarf hamster in my room (seperated) . My room was about 66 degrees and my syrian hamster seemed to be alright , as did my dwarf. But today when I got home my room was at 70 degrees and I went to take my syrian out and he was saturated with water. I checked all around his cage and his water bottle , everything seemed to be normal. I have no idea how he could of gotten so wet. Do you think he might be getting sick? So tonight I put him in my kitchen where he mostly goes every night becuz his wheel is really loud . And the kitchen is about 77 degrees to 80 degrees. What's best for both my hamsters?

Answer
Hi Jenn,

The wet fur, as long as there is no apparent reason, is usually a sign of a heat stroke (the hamster got too hot), they may also appear dead when this happens, but when taken to a cooler room, they will snap out of it. I would really have to say that the 66-70 degrees would be a lot better for the hamsters than the 77-80 degrees. Switching them back and forth is not good, as such a change in the temp could make them sick.
