Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have 3 dwarf hamsters. I am pretty sure they are campbells. My girl had 4 babies, first time mommy. She is doing great. I have been feeding her bread and baby cereal in warm milk. I have also been giving her scrambled eggs. Is there anything else I can do to help her out? babies will be one week old on friday, 9-21.
Thanks!
Lynn

ANSWER: Hi Lynn,

you are doing great!

Just keep doing what you are doing and everything should be fine.

It is best not to touch the babies until they are about two weeks old and you can clean the cage when they are about three weeks!

Good luck.

Kind Regards,

Tammy

QUESTION: Thank you Tammy, I appreciate your help.  I have another question.  I visited your website and see that you have Robo's. How can I tell if mine are campbells or robo's?  Mine have the line down the back.  I can send pics if you'd like.
Thanks!
Lynn

Answer
Hi Lynn,

Your Hamsters are probably Campbells but they could also be Winter Whites - they look very similar.  It is also possible for your hamsters to be a cross between the two!  It can be very confusing!

Chinese hamsters also have a dorsal stripe, but do not look like the above two species.

Roborovskis do not have a dorsal stripe and only come in one colour, which is the agouti or the diluted agouti colour (Husky - Faced).

Kind Regards,

Tammy
