Question
Hello again

I just got my ferret two days ago he is a cinnimin male hes only seven weeks and three days old. He sleeps a lot but likes to play when hes awake.

My question is how often should I let him out of his cage to play? Because I let him out around three times a day but end up puting him back in about thirty minutes because he is geting tired when I put him back he gos to sleep (as soon as he decieds where he wants to go to sleep). I have a room in my basement that I have ferret proffed just for him and I put a blanket on one side of the floor so he has something warm to walk on he has a few cat toys and two cardboard boxs and pant legs to crawl in and out of he loves to go smelling around when I let him out I have seen him lick the flool a few times why would he do this? and is it ok? I only used hot water to mop the floor in the room with. Do you have any toy ideas? Last but not lest would you know how many vaccines he would need this year? The vet said three canine distempers and on the last one his rabie vaccine too is this correct?

Please get back to me as soon as you can.  Thanks

Answer
First of all congrats on your new ferret.  I think you are doing wonderful with how often you let him out and when you put him back up.  It is very natural for him to want to sleep so much.  Ferrets sleep the majority of the day.  They actually sleep about 20 hours a day.  As for toys, try taking a plastic bottle and putting some marbles or rocks in it.  Then put a sock over it so that it is cloth.  Show him that it rattles and most love that.  About shots, your vet is correct.  Each vet is a bit different but I do believe your vet has you on the right track.  Oh, I almost forgot, as far as licking the floor, as long as you didn't use any chemicals on it he should be fine.  He is only doing it because he is curious.
