Ferret digging air

Question
I have several ferrets and have seen just about every behavior.  In the never ending pursuit to understand them to better care for them I am always try to figure them out.

Occasionaly I see "Digging Air" however this afternoon I witnessed SEVERAL minutes of it.  While completely entertaining its still a mystery.

My youngest boy (Nuk, 19 months old) shortly after being woken up for play time, found a dim corner to hide in.  He then ploted down on his side and put his front paws one over the other.  He began to move his paws in unison from his chin to his belly over and over and over.

Occasionaly I have seen them do this while Rooing as well although there is usually a treat involved in those cases.

What is he doing and why?

Kindest Regards

Answer
Hello,
Thank you for your question. This behavior sounds interesting, but I can honestly say I don't know what that could be, other that simply stretching or playing.
As long as he is healthy acting, and doesn't appear to have any limp or soreness, I would guess that is what it is.
Thanks again for your question.
(PS~ I love the name "Nuk")
