Question
I have 3 female ferrets that range in age from 1 to 3 years old. I recently got a new (male) ferret that was abandoned by its previous owners. He is about 6 months old. At first I didn't notice anything, but it has come to my attention that he has been biting the girls' neck, and not just little playful nips, they are hard! He jumps at them, and they screech and try to get away. He doesn't let go until someone pulls him off of them. I am wondering if this is normal or if I may need to part with him for the safety of my other ferrets.

Answer
He is very young and looking for playmates!  It is very normal.  The ferrets neck is very tough and some scabs are not a problem.  The girls are screaming to get him to stop and eventually he will, one of them will start to fight back or he will realize it is getting him no where!  I have 10 ferrets and one of them is always pikcing on someone, they fight and scream then he wonders off to fight with someone else. It took a while, but now he doesn't put as much effort into the fight as before!  Be patient and let the girls sort him out.  He probably hasn't seen another ferret or had decent playmates in his life and just needs to learn limits!  Since he is biting all 3 girls, he is at least taking turns, I would only worry a little if he was picking on 1.  Remember, ferrets play hard and rough and the skin on their neck is made to handle it!
