Dog Door

Question
We have a new puppy that we are housetraining.  Things go well when I can be on "door duty" and make sure that she gets out every few hours, otherwise we have problems.  I just ordered a doggie door, but am hesitant to install it for fear that I might be letting rodents or other unwanted animals in my house as well. We don't have too many stray pets and the area where the door would acess would be into a fenced area.  Can rodents enter through a doogie access?  It will have to be installed in a wall and I worry about permanent damage to my house.  What's your opinion?

Answer
I have never heard of rodents entering the home through a doggie door, Laurie. Dog doors are placed high enough off the ground so that I don't think it's even something rodents know is there. There are special dog doors that require your dog wear a small device on his collar to make the door open and close, if you're still worried about other animals coming through it.

If you install it correctly, you have nothing to worry about in regards to damage to your home. I know several people that have dog doors installed in the wall.
