dog afraid of bees

Question
We live in the country on weekends and our dog is always so excited to arrive and run around outside.  When he hears bees/wasps buzzing around our house, he becomes afraid and either wants to go in or runs away and hides.  We see a difference because his tail is down and he can't relax.  Yet he still loves hiking and ball playing. But it is hard to be outside with him in the summer (other than hiking) when the wasps and bees are out.  Recently, he ran away from our house.  Thank you for any advice.

Answer
Keep him on the leash until he gets over it. Give him treats while there are buzzy critters around. If you can obtain a recording, bring it inside and give him treats while you play it there. If he's very fearful, move away from the sound and play with him, pet him and give him treats until he seems comfortable, then gradually move closer. It'll take time. It's a phobia and you have to gradually work on associating it with positive things instead of negative things.
