Question
hi, my family and i need help and quick.  i love my dog Scout, she is a liver and white pure bred English Springer Spaniel who definitely lives up to the breed.  well when we leave the house she decides to hop up on the counter and get bread and any thing she can find.  she then brings it down to our other dog Brandy who is too old to get up on the counter and they destroy it eating pretty much everything, the food most of the bag and whatever remains in it.  we have tried hiding it but she still finds it.  i thought it was lack of attention so i take her for a 2 hour walk every day rain or shine, but she still does it, and they are being fed the right amount, she is actually a little over weight so i don't think this had anything to do with neglect.  we have recently, like last night, experienced a very emotional break down with my parents.  Scout got up on the counter and ate our chicken that we were going to eat for dinner they ate the whole chicken bones and all. i am very worried about her and her health they have gone through a lot of chocolate which we now hide in the pantry, buy the chicken was hidden and she still got to it.   my parents want to get rid of her but she is  my best friend and i cant let them do that please help!!

Answer
Hi, Cheyanne!

You must somehow make it so that the dog does not have access to the food.  If you must keep food on the counter, the dog should be kept in another room or inside of a barrier so that he cannot get to the counter, at least when there is food on the counter.  If he is actually able to open cabinet doors, you may want to consider child proofing the cabinets where food is kept so that he cannot open them.

Good luck!
