Question
We have a 1 yr old male english coker spaniel. He is not fixed. EVERY time he gets excited he pees all over! we dont reprimand him for it b/c I was told that only makes it worse. I try to not let him get excited and ignore him but even if I just walk by him he gets so excited and his tail wags 100 miles a minute and then he sprinkles all over the place! I dont know what to do! will getting him fixed help? please any suggestions.

Answer
I doubt if neutering would help that. Training might help calm him and give him self control so he's not so over-the-top excited all the time. You could try a belly band (changing it when damp of course) to save the floors and rugs, and I'd recommend a thorough exam and urinalysis by your vet to make sure there isn't a physical problem. Sometimes excitement urination responds to anti-anxiety drugs, so worth asking your vet about. Other than that, my only advice is to continue not to make an issue of it, and he will probably grow out of it. One year is still very much a "puppy." Sandy Case BFA MEd CPDT www.positivelycanine.com
