chow chow

Question
I've got a 8wk old chow chow puppy and he doesn't mind having his collar on-but- when i connect his leash to it he freaks out and he wont move and trys to bite it and pull it off. I tried a harness too and same thing. Please help!

Hello James!

Try getting your puppy used to the leash gradually.  Don't hook him up and immediately try to walk him.  Instead, sit on the floor and pet your puppy.  Then very casually attach the leash and just let it lay there with your pup.  Keep petting him as if the leash wasn't there, and give him a few minutes to calm down.  When he calms down, disconnect the leash and praise the dog.  Do this several times until he doesn't freak out when the leash is attached.  Even then, the first time or two give him a treat for good behavior.  Then, once he is consistently accepting the leash, you can begin to use it to walk him.  Consistency and positive reinforcement all the way.
