Question
hello. we have a 3 month old male show quality yellow labrador pup. he's very active and healthy. the problem what we faced is, whenever he sees us, not only us even the strangers, out of excitement, he runs upto them, urinates on their pant and then plays. we are really facing a big problem. can you please give me some tricks to correct this problem?

Answer
Sometimes, this type of urine-marking in a very young puppy is a response to stress. He's excited or anxious about the greeting scenario, so he attempts to comfort himself by doing this.  The best thing to do is to avoid any punishment, have the guests pay very little attention to him as he greets them (no direct eye contact, and no looming over the puppy with outstretched hands, etc.)until things have calmed down.  You can also try keeping him in a separate room or his crate, let the guests in and have them be seated (less threatening than if they stand), then bring puppy in and allow him to interact with them (again, they should remain quiet and neutral).  Many pups grow out of this behavior if it isn't reinforced by inappropriate actions on the part of the humans, or by scolding the dog, which makes him more anxious, thus more likely to submissively urinate.
