Question
I have an 88lb 4 year old Rottie/Shep mix that's the best dog I've ever had.  Perfect behavior, not one problem.  We decided to get a pal for him and brought home a 3 mo old Rottie/shep mix.  All is going very well except we can't get little Rosie to pee or do her business outside.  We take her out several times a day to play and run our 2 1/2 acres but no matter how long we keep her out she won't go until she comes back into the house.  She uses wee wee pads (never misses).  We even tried taking a wee wee pad outside but she ignored it.  She's very good otherwise; very smart.  Sleeps all night and everything and doesn't chew our things.  What can we do?

Many Thanks,
Janet

Answer
Hi Janet,
The best thing to try is don't let her run around for a long period of time before she goes potty. Take her out to one location (on leash), say, "Go Potty" or some other cue and wait for 3 minutes.

If she doesn't go potty, bring her inside and put her back in her crate or pen. Then, take her out again in 30-60 minutes and try again. Don't allow her to run around until she goes potty, and make sure she gets a tasty reward after she goes potty.

It sounds like she is just distracted outside.

Keep me posted.
