Dogs pooping in house again

Question
My dog hasn't pooped on the floor for over 2 months and any time she needed to go out, she would get up and pace to let me know. My boyfriend just started a new job on Monday and is gone for 12 hours or so, but I am home with her. Monday she didn't warn us she needed to go out, she stood up in her dog bed and started pooping. Then today Wed I was thoroughly hand scrubbing the carpet where she pooped and I had just finished vacuuming and I look up to she her pooping on the carpet. I promptly took her outside for like 5 min and she didn't do anything. As soon as I brought her back inside she finished pooping. Could she be acting up because my boyfriend isn't here as much? How do it fix/train her?

Answer
Hi Kelly.  Dogs, like people, can be very sensitive to disruptions in their routine.  And when stressed, they can show that through their digestive system.

First, be sure that she's feeling well.  Take a sample to the vet and have them do a fecal to check for parasites.

Go back to Puppy Housetraining 101.  Strict monitoring and confinement when you can't monitor.  Don't allow her to continue to make mistakes.  Use a crate or exercise pen as necessary to keep her from using the carpet as her toilet.  Don't allow her free access to areas where she's had an accident.

Be sure that when she does have some freedom in the house that you watch her closely for signs that she needs to go out - sniffing, circling, whining.  Go outside with her and make sure that she potties.  If she doesn't, she should go into her confinement area.  Try again in a half hour.

You don't say how old she is, but if she's a pup, she might just need to get back into a routine and things will get back to normal.

Please let me know if you have questions about anything I've recommended.  Good luck.
