Rescued Pom/Dachshund

My boyfriend and I adopted Sydney, a Pemeranian/Dachshund mix, about four months ago.  He has bonded to me and and my boyfriend but closely with me.  We know he was beat and was in a high kill animal compound.  My question is how to socialize him with young children and strangers.

Well what you can do is first have have friends come over and let him sniff them and have your friends offer him a small treat so he knows they are good-same with kids if you know any

Then start taking him to parks ect and let people pet him,but tell them to go slow
