Head/neck shaking

Question
My elderly (age 14) lab cross with arthritic hips goes through occasional bouts of vigourously (frequently) shaking his head. I get the impression that his neck is stiff due to the way he holds it (but that's just a guess). I don't think it's a skin problem. He's on daily Medicam for the arthritis - is there anything I can do to relieve his discomfort?

Answer
Hi Carole :-)

This sounds more ear related hun. Shaking of the head is a indication of a ear problem from infection, hairs, mites, dry skin to a wax build up.

I recommend you take your Dog to the Vet for this to check his ears out. It's most likely to do with something inside his internal ear canal which the Human eye is unable to detect or see into.

Take care and all the best and please leave me a comment.
