Hi:  just wondering how to leash train my dog Beau.  He is naturally very submissive.  We have had him for 4 weeks and he is fitting in nicely .  When I put a leash on him using his collar, He just gets stiff, lays on his belly, and refuses to move.  I got him from a breeder where he was loved and well cared for.  How does this work.  My last dog was a runnaway train on a leash, I did not realize dogs do not naturally want to walk on a leash??? Please help...jill

It works much better to start at 7 weeks.  Now try letting him drag the leash around in the house, or even a short length of rope to get used to it.  Once he starts to accept it, put the leash on.  Follow his name with the command ''Heel!'' and start forward.  If he doesn't come, try coaxing him from the end of the leash.  If that doesn't work, drop back behind him and run in baby steps calling ''Go, go, go!'' in an excited voice.
