QuestionI noticed my lhasa apso eating something the other day while he was out in the backyard. I have lots of squirrels that come around my bird feeder to eat the seeds that fall. I am pretty sure he is eating squirrel feces! What can happen to him by doing this? He is fully vaccinated - but I am scared that he will contact some sort of disease that might be transmitted to us. Is there anything I should look for like vomiting/diahrrea? Should I call the vet?
AnswerHi Kathy,
The only thing I would worry about is that he would pick up parasites from the squirrels feces. You may want to take a sample of his stool to your Vet ever now and then and have it checked. He may be eating the seed hulls, that's what I caught my dogs doing!! Although it's probably not a good thing, as long as you have him checked for parasites ever now and then, he will be fine. I don't think he can pass anything to you. You could call your Vet just to make sure though.
God bless,
Becky
