Question
QUESTION: I Have a terrier puppy and I'm not exactly sure how old he is, when he was given to me on December 26 i was told that he was born some time in November. His name is Rascal. he wont eat the food were feeding him, he will avoid eating it until he is so hungry that he does, he eats the cat food when he can get to it but wont eat his food, is something wrong with him? any good dog food you can recommend, i have tried Purina, and kibbles&bits. but he loves my kittens, meow mix. help please I'm afraid he is to skinny
ANSWER: Try a different higher quility more flavorful brand, Kitten and cat food will cause health problems to the dog as it contains way too much protine for dogs and puppies. I reccomend trying Nutro, Royal Canin,  Authority, Nutreance, Technical, purina Pro plan or Blue buffalo, get a dry kibble and leave it down at all times be sure to keep the kittens food up and out of the dogs reach. After the puppy is hungry enouh he will eat his food after a few days of eatting his food you can portion it into meals and get him to eat when its put down. You cna mix a small amount of canned food in with teh hard food to get him to eat it also or soke the dry kibble in enough water so it all absorbs into the kibble...not enough to soke the kibble and have extra water because pouring the extra water off would be pouring off all the nutreents and flavor.

QUESTION: Thanks for the adivice and i have another question. when rascal goes outside he likes to run around which is hard because i live in a houseing communtity and we dont have a backyard. if i call to him and he sees me or if i try to grab him he runs off thinking im playing with him and wont let me get near him, but if i leave the screen door open and am out of site while i whistle he will immeditaly come inside. how can i stop him from thinking im playing when i try to catch him, i usually have him on a leash before i walk out the door but there are times when he just bolts

Answer
Hello. Terriers are very naughty, disobediant and stubborn dogs lol. My jack russell terrier "Luke" is 2 years old  and I've had him since he was 7 weeks old but when I call for the dogs to come in via names/whisling or get in hear whatever works at the time my labrador rtereiver(ages 3) and bosotn terrier (aged 1) will come bolting in but Luke he will sit at the far end of the yard and stare at me even if its -20 C or pouring rain or +30 C lol he is plain stubborn and its in the terrier standard to be stuborn(Boston terriers aren't classed as terriers and are not a sixth as stubborn as jack russell terriers!). I has come down to the point where he will only come in if I close the door stand back adn wait for him to run up to the step...if he can see me genrally he doenst come to the house...but If I come bearing treats he will most of the time come lol. My advice is to never let a terrier pure or cross bred off leash the risk is just to high its instints will take over and the dog go bolting after a rabbit or cat and be hit by a car or never seen again.
