Question
Hi Nancy,

I have a 1 year old Bichon today. He has been quite a handful. He has a Alfa personality. But he has calmed down by 85% in his year of life.
He is very loveable and wants to play non stop. Either one on one one the floor or fetch.

The problem, he chews everything he can get into his mouth. He has ruined nearly all his toys. He puta a lot of effort in his thoughts of how to get something(i,e jumping on chairs, toliet, tables, out side stuff). I have to chanse him around the house to corner him in a place where he has no choice but to drop the opbject or have me reach into his mouth and pull it out. I have got to the point where I now spanking his behind. Not hard, but to get a bad boy reaction.
I realize this has become a game for him. It is at the point where I must close doors and black off my bedroom closet. I don't like living this way.
Please tell me what I can do to stop this behavior.

Thank you

Answer
If he is ingesting what he chews, it could be one problem  If this is the case.  Switch him to Eukanuba puppy food for about 6 months,  and give him a vitamin and mineral supplement.
If he is just tearing things up, then he is probably bored.  Are there any other animals around that he can play with?   Also, get him some toys that you put food in and he has to figure out how to get the food out.  There are several on the market.   When you get him toys, only give him a couple at a time, then give him a couple of others the next day.  even three at a time is ok.  He may need a vit/mineral supplement anyway.  It may help with all chewing.   Get him some pig ears. as well.  If this doesn't work, get back to me.
