Barking Chorkie

Question
I have a 5 month old Chorkie (half chihuaua and yorkshire terrier).  He's a good dog, however, he barks at anybody who walks by our house, or when he's in the car with us, people who walk by the car or are just walking.  How can we teach him not to bark for no reason?  I can tell him quiet and he'll look at me and stop barking, I can reward him, but when it's all done and over with, he'll return to barking.
Thanks.

Answer
dogs bark for many reasons, one is to tell the members of the pack that something is up. the thing that you must teach the puppy is that people walking by are not "something" that it is "ok." You can do this by example. ignore the barking and praise the quiet and calm dog. after a while the dog will think nothing of people just walking by. also get the puppy around as many people in your neighborhood as possible. so that it will recognize most of your neighbors. have them give the puppy a treat, this is basic socialization. your puppy should except most of the people in your neighborhood as common members of your extended pack.  the supervision of a trainer will also help identify other posible reasons for the barking.
Hope this helps
Tim.
