Question
Hello, I Have A 9 Month Old Great Dane Female. She Looks Really Emaciated To Me. I Don't Know What To Do About Her Weight. Everyone Make Comments About Her Weight. And Says She Is So Skinny! She Is About 24 Inches, And About 90 lbs. You Can See Her Ribs, And Backbone, Hips. Ive Got Her On 3 Kinds Of Different Dog Food. One For Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. But She Will Not Put Any Weight On. She Gets Iams.Pedagre.And Purina Dog Chow. She Is Up To Date On All Of Her Shots,Dewormer. And DHLP. Her Vet Said That She Looks Fine To Him, But Not To Everyone Else. I Just Really Need To Get Help Putting Weight On Her And I Am Open To Any Suggestions.
Thanks Sheriell

Answer
When I worked at the shelter we always gave the Emaciated dogs Soft Can food, you can also give her puppy canned food. We would all give then our leftover people food too!  They like liversausage if you have to give them pills, you can give her vitamins for dogs, but don't give her human snacks just fatty foods, mostly meats, hamburgers, I know people don't like to spoil their dogs but if underweight we thought it was more important for them to gain wait than get spoiled. The Vets recommended Canned food. Has she had blood test done lately, I would recommend that too, also a heartworm test. Good luck, Sincerely concerned, Angela Jensen
