Aggressive Greetings

Question
I have 3 dogs (1 Weimeriner age 6 - neutered - inside dog, 2 Jack Russel Terriers - age 7 - neutered - inside dogs). They are all very nice dogs. However when people are trying to come over to our house for a visit, all three of them go crazy. They bark and jump and are completely overwhelming. If my Weim does not have a toy in his mouth at the greeting, he will nip. It's not an aggressive nip, but it may scare some people. I need some sort of guidance. I'm thinking of getting bark collars for all three of them, however I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do. We already have an invisible fence outside and they may associate the tones and shocks to our backyard and be afraid to wander throughout the house. Please help!!

Answer
Teach your dogs a 'place' command, and use that command when people come over. When the doorbell rings, that should be the cue to your dogs to go to their place, whether it's their crates, or individual dog beds, or simply into another room. Your guests can then enter the house and get settled, before you release your dogs to greet them. You should not allow jumping and barking, or nipping. The dogs should be expected to greet the visitors nicely, maybe even sitting so that they can be petted. Your guests should completely ignore the dogs until they are calm. Then s/he can pet them if s/he wishes. However, if the dogs become overly excited again, you should send them back to their places.

If this is too hard, just put them up when company comes over.
