Micro puppy nutrition

Question
I have a new 16 oz. yorkiepoo who is 6 weeks old.  Our older chihuahua eats leans browned hamburger meat that has been rinsed after cooked and we add DINOVITE each day at the recommended amounts.   The new puppy is so vigorous at the hamburger meat with Dinovite, we are wondering if she is missing out on calcium requirements, etc.  Do you have any experience on feeding beef or boiled white chicken meat to small dogs and what types of vitamins should we be adding to maintain her diet.  We were instructed by breeder to add a small amount of honey to her water for a while to make sure her blood sugar levels do not drop, is this also a recommended routine with a active puppy?  I do not want to give her too much sugar if she does not need it.

Answer
I wouldn't suggest any of that.  Too much calcium is bad too, and the ratio to phosphorus is critical.  You don't want to add calcium unless you know  the diet is short on it.  I feed my puppies Pro Plan chicken and rice growth formula and nothing else until they are 4 months old.  They have all thrived on it along with the 300-400 other puppies each year in the dog guide program.  Feeding a carefully formulated commercial chow ensures your puppy is getting the complete and balanced diet it needs leaving you none of the worries in your question.

Not only does your puppy need a balanced diet, I think you need a better balanced reading program.  You have been reading too much from those selling alternative diet supplies.  Browse through http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/articles2.html#nutrition and broaden your reading.
