Question
I have a 18 months old Jack Russell pure-bread. We normally have her sleeping in the bed with me and my partner. But I am now 7 months pregnant and I don't want the responsibility of having our dog in the same room when the baby comes. More so with all the dog/kid attacks that are happening in Australia at the moment.
We have tried to start putting our dog out of the room now. But find that she is keeping me up all night by scratching at the door and whimpering non-stop. Anything you can suggest to help with the transition would be much appreciated

Answer
Hello tara..you should never allow your pet in the bed as it is a disrepect thing with the dog. At any rate, you need to leave the dog in the room, or she will not stop doing the things you said. Get a dog crate and put her in it in the same room. You can be sure then that she wont hurt the baby when it comes. She will whimper the first night or two but it will stop once she realizes you wont give in. It is just like having a baby. If you place the crate somewhere in the house where there are no people, she will continue to throw a fit. It must be where someone is sleeping. Also, are you aware of the things you should be doing right now to make sure the dog is ok with the baby? has anyone discussed that with you?
thanks
