Lab puppies

Question
We have two lab puppies - a chocolate one that was 25 weeks on Sat. and a yellow that was 23 weeks on Fri.  They both were neutered last month on the recommendation of our vet.  The chocolate one if you touch him when he's sleeping many times he will growl at you - I thought he was doing it because something startled him while he was sleeping.  However, last night we had just gotten in bed and he was looking at me and out of nowhere growled and snapped at my face.  This behavior is starting to really alarm me.  Have you heard of this happening before and know what could possibly be causing it?

Answer
The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
