Question
My 3yo female is soooooo ready and the 2yo male can't figure it out!  It's the first time for both labs.  I've tried putting her over my lap and leading him to her backside.  They're locked in my basement on and off all day to keep them in close proximity of each other.  He licks her etc. etc but hasn't figured it out and my female is going to loose her window in a few days.  What can I do??? Help!!!!!

Answer
Some males are just a bit slow to mature, not only physically, but mentally as well. He might do better when he is older.

It is better to keep them separate and then put them together when wanting to breed them; this makes them both more interested in the process, and is what good breeders do with their dogs. One should *always* stay with the dogs, however, to insure that no one gets hurt in the breeding process as that can easily happen if one of them freaks out during the tie, particularly if they have never been bred before.

The only other thing to do is to take them to your veterinarian, have the male collected, and the bitch artificially inseminated with his sperm.
