Question
I have a 6 month old male Bull Terrier named Trooper. We recently moved to GA and our friends who we are living with have a 10 week old male German Shepard named Trigger. The two dogs play great together. They share toys and water together with no problems but when it is time to feed my dog he will snap at and bite Trigger. The first time Trigger ended up with a small hole on his nose. So we decided to keep them separated when it came to feeding time. Today I went to give the dogs ice cubes to help cool them off and Trooper bit Trigger again. This time on the ear and there was no real damage done. My husband and I can play with his food and pet him just fine when he is eating. He did have some aggression towards us right after he was fixed but we worked with him and he stopped it although he would still snap at the cat if he walked by. We make Trooper sit and stay before he is able to have his food or treats. Trigger is very small and I fear for his safety but i love my dog very much and I hope he is still young enough to break this habit. What can I do?

Answer
Is Trooper neutered? He is just getting old enough to begin showing some dominance. Neuter him if you haven't already. Then you need to address the problem and not the symptoms. Type alpha boot camp into your webbrowser and learn how to establish and maintain pack order in your home. WALK your dog. A thirty minute power walk at heel EVERY day rain or shine will make a huge difference. He should be exercizing 3 times a week heavily enough so that his tongue hangs out. Get him into a basic obedience class. Make sure he has toys that work his teeth AND his mind and change them out often. Bull terriers by nature are dominant, tough dogs. Get this worked out now before you end up with a REAL problem.
