dog drool

Question
We have a 4 year old chocolate lab (at least that is what the human society told us when we adopted him 2 years ago). When the kids take him outside and throw the tennis ball for him he's having a great time. After he's done he seems to continually drool for a couple of hours after playing. We make sure he gets a drink and has a cool place to cool off at. The drooling after chasing the tennis ball can last for a couple of hours. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Thanks

Answer
Dogs drool when they eat, drink, exercise or pant, and some individuals or breeds will be worse than others. If this occurs on warmer days and/or if he is overweight and out of condition, it will take longer for him to cool down. If he is still panting, he will still be drooling.
