QUESTION: My beagle has been sleeping more lately and has been more aggressive about food. she sometimes kicks you when you get near her belly. And her belly is bigger and harder. Is my beagle gonna have puppies?

ANSWER: She could be pregnant, or she could be having a false pregnancy. The symptoms are the same. Was she ever around a male? If you don't know, you should probably have her spayed.

Take her to your vet as he should be able to tell by either palpation or ultrasound if she is in the early stages, or by X-ray if she is at least 50 days along.

QUESTION: im not sure if she has been around a male.but she has been altered but she is showing signs.

If your bitch has been spayed, then she *cannot* be having puppies. If she was spayed recently, however, she could still be having a false pregnancy as those hormones will still be there and functioning for awhile.

Do keep an eye on her, though, and watch for other symptoms as bellies don't usually get bigger and harder with false pregnancies. If you see other changes, she might need to be seen by a vet.
