Pumpkin seed oil, have you heard of this

Question
Hi Kristen,  I recently had an experience and wanted to know if you have ever heard this happening yourself.  My dog had worms.  I wormed her with over counter medicine several times but kept seeing little wigglies in her poop.  So I searched and searched the net.  At some point I read that pumpkin seed oil will paralyze worms.  I had some in my cabinet, I have a lot of herbs etc anyway, so I squeezed the oil out of gel caplet into some milk and my dog passed a tapeworm!  Just wondering if maybe this should be shared with others as a healthy way to help dogs pass parasites.  I haven't called any local vets because we live in a rural community and honestly they would probably laugh at using an herbal method.  So I wanted an educated opinion as to what someone else thought about it.  Thanks

Answer
I don't know what happened to Kristen, but your question is now available to others.  I highly doubt the pumpkin seed oil had anything to do with passing the tape worm.  More likely what you saw were some to the segments they lose as they grow.  It is unfortunate that you would let one case, which may only be a coincidence, convince you pumpkin seed oil is a safe and effective tape worm remedy.

If you don't want to go to the vet, I would find an OTC remedy labeled for tape worms and dose her.  In the end, the vets have the safest, and most effective worm remedies.  Actually many of the heartworm and flea remedies will eliminate some of the more common worms.
