Dog dropping dog food all over house

I have a boxer who is eighteen months old that when he eats, he takes a bite of dog food and takes it under the table and drops it and then leaves it there without eating it. He also makes a huge mess around his dog bowl whenever he is eating. Is there a training method to remedy this problem?

Does he go back and eat the bite of food that he leaves under the table? I don't know of any way to remedy this problem other than feeding him in a crate. My oldest dog (she's 6) also does this, but she will go and eat the 'stash' after she finishes what's in her bowl.
